432Hzzz:[//////]
An Interactive Album Created For The Hearing-Impaired.
Positioning myself in an auditorily-impaired individual’s perspective, we tried to look to another form of and media for the auditory sense. With a concept of experimentation to visualize the auditory sense, we combined static and dynamic visual presentation, assisting the hearing-impaired to enjoy the rhythm and lyrical narrative of the music. We hope this can allow them to establish a connection with music and story. In the presentation hearing impaired were invited to proof the effect of visual effect can felt music.
The Final Version Of The Player
Intervention Research
We went to the Taipei Hearing Impaired institute, and interviewed six hearing impaired students. These student are light, medium and severely impaired in hearing. These students taught me that music is not limited by listening. For instance, while listening to music, they would turn up the volume of their phone, and feel the vibration from their phone on the table. They also watch the visual movement melody clip. In their feedback, they want to “hear” the pure and subtle sounds of nature the most. As a result, we coined the design “432Hzzz” from 432Hz, which best represents the frequency of nature in order to create the imagery of the lingering sounds in nature. The music is divided into three parts: Forest, Ocean, and Galaxy.
Prequel: The “Forestry” Visalization
Sequel: The “Ocean” Visualization
Final: The “Galaxy” Visualization
Sequel: The “Ocean” Visualization
Final: The “Galaxy” Visualization
The experiment procedure of dynamic visual presentation
We cooperated with the students in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Through laser beam projected on the speaker with a reflective mirror, when the music is played, the vibration from the speaker sends vibrations to the reflective mirror, causing the laser beam to tremble, which is briefly recorded on the acrylic disc or the handmade paper containing fluorescent powder. We designed three discs from different texture and color for the three corresponding songs of different musical backgrounds to present different songs with its own unique dynamic visual design. The Forestry and Galaxy is a combination of green and orange fluorescent powder 100g paper respectively, produced the disc containing fluorescent powder. The Ocean is a disc with blue fluorescent element piled to form into music linear wave. After the laser shot it will produce different pattern lines as a unique visual language.
The Final Version Of The Graphic Design
“If a word was an unit of a poem, then a musical note is the lyric of a fragment of a song. Every note has its own appearance.”
Another way to visualize the auditory sense is to borrow elements from nature—placing a grain of sand on the playing speaker to record marks created by the dancing of the sand with each passing note and creating a visual lyric with these unique marks. Turn these symbols into visual language, creating a new symbol of language and putting these symbols on the 3 visual package and lyrics pack. Discarding the traditional language based conception. This allows everyone to have a different interpretation of the lyrics. We also used these visualized marks for the packaging of the three visual albums.
